The Vineyard- October 21, 2012

The Vineyard
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5

Genesis 11:1-9
-          What do all people share, or have in common?
-          What is that the people decide to do, using their common language?  Whose words are driving their actions, their own, or God’s?
-          What is their motivation for building the tower?  What do they hope to prevent from happening?
-          The tower is supposed to reach to the heavens, and yet God must still “come down” in order to see it.  What does that tell you about human ambition, and the realization of humanity’s goals?
-          How does God disturb their plans?  Why doesn’t he just destroy their tower?

Hebrews 3:1-19
-          How is Jesus referred to at the very beginning of this passage?
-          How is it that Jesus is greater than Moses?
-          How are Jesus and Moses similar?  How are they different?
-          What was Moses’ role in God’s house?  What is Jesus’ role in God’s house?
-          Why was it that Israel failed to enter God’s rest?
-          How can we avoid making the same mistake that they made?
