The Vineyard- November 3, 2013

The Vineyard
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5

Genesis 20:1-18
Pray for God to speak to you through the reading of His word.
Read the passage.
-          Old habits die hard
o   Despite walking in faith for years, Abraham still struggles with reacting in ways that are faithless, and even sinful.
o   What old mindsets, actions, or habits have you found it hard to leave behind as you try to walk with Christ in faith?
-          The dangers of prejudice
o   Abraham endangers his relationship with Sarah, almost nullifies the promise, and lies, all because he prejudged Abimelech’s people.
o   When have you gotten in trouble for assuming things about people?
o   Remember, Jesus had a habit of getting to know even the people with “bad reputations”.  Perhaps we should do the same as his followers?
-          God is greater than our mistakes
o   Despite Abraham’s mistakes, God uses him as a source of blessing.  How might God use you, despite your sins?
Pray that we will increasingly put our world attitudes and ways of thinking behind us.
Pray that God will give us the wisdom to judge people for who they are, not who we think they are.

Thank God for using us, despite our imperfections!
