The Vineyard- June 15, 2014

The Vineyard
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5

Genesis 25:1-34
Pray for God to speak to you through the reading of His word.
Read the passage.
-          God’s Promises
o   Even though Ishmael wasn’t the child of promise, God still made a promise to Hagar that he would be blessed.  Even if we don’t have a leading role in history, God’s faithfulness to us remains.
-          God’s Prerogative
o   When Jacob and Esau were born, contemporary society dictated that the oldest son should be the one who received the lion’s share, if not the entire inheritance.  And yet, before they were born God tells Rebekah that it will be the younger that will be the greatest.  God is not bound by tradition or social customs when choosing who he will use.
-          Short-Term Thinking
o   Esau is willing to trade away future blessings for immediate gratification.  Are you guilty of giving up a lot, for just a little bit of immediate satisfaction?
Praise God for his faithfulness toward us.
Pray for wisdom to discern how God might want to use you.

Pray for strength to value our future blessings, more than our immediate gratification.
