Purity Resides in the Heart
o
The text refers to Dinah as a
victim, and never implies that as the victim she has sinned in any way. People can take a lot of things from us, but
they can never take our purity, for it resides in the heart. When God looks in your heart, does he find
purity there?

The Ease of Appeasement
o
Jacob acts in a way that seeks to
appease those who have wronged his daughter in a serious way. Jacob finds in time that ignoring a wrong
doesn’t make it go away. Is there a wrong
in your life that you are trying to ignore?

The Violence of Vengeance
o
Their anger at Dinah being wronged
leads Dinah’s brothers to take vengeance upon not just Dinah’s assailant, but
against everyone. How does refusing to
deal with an issue create more problems?
Pray for a pure heart, and the
ability to judge others according to their heart rather than physical realities
or histories.
Pray for courage to confront
injustices in a fair, truthful way.
Pray for the ability to reject
violence and vengeance as a means of obtaining justice.
