The Vineyard
I am the vine; you are the
branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit,
for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5
Genesis 15:1-21
Pray for God to speak to you through
the reading of His word.
Read the passage.

Conversing with God
o
When is the last time you had a
sustained conversation with God (not just a quick blessing before a meal)?
o
Do you feel comfortable enough in
your faith that you can complain to God?
o
Why do you think God blesses Abram
directly after Abram’s complaint? How do
you think our willingness to be honest with God grows our trust in him?
-
Imagining with God
o
When Abram look at the stars, he is
reminded both of the scope of God, and the scope of God’s promise. What places or images remind you of our God’s
might and power?
o
When Abram sees God take part in the
covenant ceremony, he is reminded of God’s work. What images remind you of God’s work in our
world, and your life?
Pray that we will have a faith that
is strong enough, and honest enough to “complain” to God.
Pray that we will be reminded of
God’s faithfulness, and that God will help us imagine the future he has
promised us.
