The Vineyard- November 17, 2013

The Vineyard
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5

Genesis 22:1-19
Pray for God to speak to you through the reading of His word.
Read the passage.
-          The Absurdity of Faith
o   Do you recognize the conflict between the world’s logic and faith in God?  If you don’t see a conflict between the two, ask yourself, “then why does faith matter?”
-          God as Giver and Provider
o   Do you truly understand that God has given you everything you have received, and that He will provide for your future?
-          God’s Power as Giver and Provider
o   Do you live in a way that demonstrates your trust in God?  Do you believe God has the power to resurrect you both physically and spiritually?
-          God Leads By Example
o   God asks Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, but ultimately he stays Abraham’s hand.  However, when it came time to sacrifice His own Son, God follows through and makes the ultimate sacrifice.  How does remembering God’s sacrifice of Jesus, help put the sacrifices God asks you to make in perspective?

Pray for a faith like Abraham’s, that willingly lays everything on the altar.

The Vineyard- November 10, 2013

The Vineyard
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5

Genesis 21:1-34
Pray for God to speak to you through the reading of His word.
Read the passage.
-          God Delivers Promised Blessings
o   Sometimes we resent God for not giving us things, but we forget that God promises us very few things.
o   Though God promises few things, they are the most important things.  How does God’s promise of salvation help us endure all of life’s other disappointments?
-          Learning to Live with Blessings
o   Have you ever had a time in your life where you got exactly what you wanted, but there were unforeseen consequences?
o   What challenges do we face in trying to learn how to live with the blessings God has given us?
-          Anticipating the Future
o   Both Abraham and Hagar work to prepare for the future God has promised their descendants.  In what ways are you working for the future?  Is your mind focused more on heaven, or on earth?
Thank God for delivering on His promise to provide salvation.
Pray that God will teach you how to manage your blessings in a way that glorifies Him.

Pray that God will help us live in a way that demonstrates our faith in the future He has prepared for us.

The Vineyard- November 3, 2013

The Vineyard
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5

Genesis 20:1-18
Pray for God to speak to you through the reading of His word.
Read the passage.
-          Old habits die hard
o   Despite walking in faith for years, Abraham still struggles with reacting in ways that are faithless, and even sinful.
o   What old mindsets, actions, or habits have you found it hard to leave behind as you try to walk with Christ in faith?
-          The dangers of prejudice
o   Abraham endangers his relationship with Sarah, almost nullifies the promise, and lies, all because he prejudged Abimelech’s people.
o   When have you gotten in trouble for assuming things about people?
o   Remember, Jesus had a habit of getting to know even the people with “bad reputations”.  Perhaps we should do the same as his followers?
-          God is greater than our mistakes
o   Despite Abraham’s mistakes, God uses him as a source of blessing.  How might God use you, despite your sins?
Pray that we will increasingly put our world attitudes and ways of thinking behind us.
Pray that God will give us the wisdom to judge people for who they are, not who we think they are.

Thank God for using us, despite our imperfections!
