The Vineyard- July 26, 2015

The Vineyard
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5

II Corinthians 4:7-18
Pray for God to speak to you through the reading of His word.
Read the passage.
-          Jars of Clay
o   It seemed odd to the Corinthians that such an important message as the gospel would be transmitted by a broken-down apostle like Paul.  Are we guilty of missing the truly important things in life, because we place too much importance on the external and superficial?
-          Relating to Scripture
o   Knowing the Bible as well as he did, Paul was able to see his own story in the reading of Psalm 116.  Do we know the Bible well enough to gain comfort by discerning our story in Scripture?
-          A Study in Contrasts
o   Paul concludes this section with a slew of contrasts.  When we think about what we place value in, what we think is important, where does it fall on this list?  Would it fall into the category of the outer, the momentary, the passing away, or the inner, the eternal, and the renewed?
Praise God for the privilege of being vessels used to glorify him.
Devote yourself to familiarizing yourself with Scripture.
Pray for the wisdom to focus more on the eternal, and less on the temporary.

The Vineyard
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5

II Corinthians 4:1-6
Pray for God to speak to you through the reading of His word.
Read the passage.
-          The Importance of “How”
o   We often get so caught up in what we are doing, that we forget that how we do it is extremely important.  We can represent the truth of who God is, but if we do so in a way that fails to demonstrate love, our efforts will be frustrated.  How might you better go about presenting God’s truth?
-          Setting the Agenda
o   When we allow Satan to veil us to the truth about Christ, we allow him to set the agenda for our live.  How might we better ensure that the light of Christ is allowed to shine in our hearts and our minds?
-          Experiencing God
o   The glory of God is experienced in Christ, both as he hung on the cross out of love, and rose from the grave in triumph.  How can we create more opportunities for us to experience God in Christ?
Pray for the patience and wisdom to present the gospel in its simplicity, beauty, and love.
Pray that the agenda for our lives will be set by the light of Christ, rather than the deceptions of Satan.
Praise God for the ability to experience Him through Christ.

The Vineyard- July 5, 2015

The Vineyard
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5

II Corinthians 3:7-18
-          Covenant
o       The old covenant was the covenant of condemnation, because death was the only possibility for us.  With the new covenant, God’s Spirit guides us as we become like Christ.  Is your life defined by following rules, or allowing the Spirit to work in your heart?
-          Veil
o       Paul says that when we read the Law, the Old Testament, without believing in Christ, a veil lies over our hearts and mind, because Christ is whom the Law is pointing to.  Is the Old Testament simply a bunch of old, out-dated rules to you, or do you see the promise of Christ there?
-          Transformation
o       As Christians, we should be in the process of being transformed into the image of Christ day by day.  Is that transformation happening in your life?  Are you beholding Christ so that the transformation can take place?
Pray that we will embrace the new covenant, and God’s Spirit which works in us.
Pray that as we continually turn the Christ, the veil will be lifted from our hearts.

Pray that we all might be transformed into the image of Christ, day by day.
