The Vineyard- April 26, 2015
The Vineyard
I am the vine; you are the
branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit,
for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5
Oh, To Be
Like Him!
The value
of spiritual leadership cannot be underestimated in this fallen world. Aspiring
to do more than just fill a pew is essential to the kingdom's work and the
blessing of God.
The
parable of talents in Matthew 25:14-30 teaches us many things about
leadership.
1. Great leaders take the
initiative. Even when specific
instructions are not provided, they act responsibly with what they know the
Master would want them to do.
2. Great leaders tend to be
intensive. They are not deterred by those
who would rather hide their talents.
3. Great leaders focus on the
incentive. They are rewarded by the
Master and given even greater responsibility in the future.
Jesus
taught and exemplified all the qualities of great leadership. But perhaps the
most dynamic quality of all was His ability to lead by letting His students see
for themselves. Life to Him was experiential. He sent His students on
assignments, provided hands-on visual aids and, in the end, He expected them to
do even more than He had accomplished.
"Very
truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing,
and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.”
- John 14:12 (NIV)

Decisions, decisions
-
Motives
o
What is your motivation for having
faith in Christ?
o
Do you see God as a means to an end,
or the end Himself?
o
Would others look at you and think
you to be godly? What that be simply the
outward appearance, or would it be the true reflection of your heart?
-
Cost
o
Have you ever thought about the fact
that Christian faith costs us?
o
Did you consider the cost before you
made your decision to follow Jesus?
o
In what ways has the world rejected
you because of your Christian faith? If
you’ve never faced rejection because of your faith, is it possible your faith
isn’t very noticeable to others?
-
Commitment
o
Have you renounced your old, sinful
way of living?
o
Have you committed to daily carrying
your cross and following Jesus?
Pray for pure motives in following
Christ.
Pray for the courage to accept the
cost of following Christ.
Pray for the ability to more fully
commit to Christ.

The Glory of God
-
God is Eternal
o
What things can you name that have
always existed, and will always exist?
o
God is the only thing that has
always existed, and that will always exist.
That is part of God’s glory, that God is eternal in nature.
-
God is Relational
o
Have you have thought about the fact
that God has had a relationship with God for all eternity?
o
Because God exists in three persons-
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit- God has existed in a relationship from the very
beginning.
o
How do we see the different persons
of the Trinity relating to one another?
How do they glorify one another?
o
How can we model this in our own
relationships?
-
God is Incarnational
o
While Jesus coming to this earth was
a humbling thing, it also revealed God’s glory to us.
o
How does the incarnation reveal God
to us?
Pray that we might learn to live and
love in healthy relationships, modeled after God’s selflessness.
Praise God for taking on human
flesh, and living among us!

The Resurrection is Real
Pray that God will speak to you
through the reading of His word.
-
The Tomb was Found Empty
o
The empty tomb was a reality, and it
means that death is not final, not even for us.
What encouragement does it bring to know that death is not the end?
-
The Appearances of Jesus
o
Jesus appeared to many people,
several times after His resurrection.
What do you think it was like to see Jesus alive, when they had thought
he was dead? What do you think it will
be like when we see Jesus for the first time?
-
The Boldness of His Disciples
o
Before Jesus’ death, His disciples
were very much afraid of being associated with Him. But just a few weeks later, they are boldly talking
about Him in public. What besides His resurrection
could so embolden them?
-
The Reality of the Resurrection
o
Jesus’ resurrection is a historical
reality. It actually happened. Is your spiritual life consistent with the
fact of Jesus’ resurrection?
Pray that we might have courage and
boldness, just as Jesus’ disciples did after the resurrection.
Pray that the resurrection will be
not only a historical reality, but also a spiritual reality in each of our
lives.
