The Vineyard- March 27, 2016

The Vineyard- March 27th, 2016
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5

Pray for God to speak to you through the reading of His word.
The Resurrection of Christ Obtains our Righteousness
-          By raising Jesus from the dead, the Father was proving that Christ was righteous, perfect, and underserving of the fate of being crucified.
-          Because we are imperfect, we rely on Christ’s righteousness, which allowed him to bear the penalty of our sin.
-          By proving Jesus righteous, God allows us to obtain righteousness through the vindicated Christ.
-          Passages to Consider: Romans 4:13-25; I Corinthians 15:17
The Resurrection of Christ Guarantees our Immortality
-          Jesus’ resurrection proves that resurrection is possible.  If God could do it once with Jesus, he could do it again!
-          Jesus suffered our punishment, so we could take part in his life.  Our fate has been tied to his, which is wonderful news!
-          Passages to Consider: I Corinthians 15:20-22; I Peter 1:3-5
The Resurrection of Christ Empowers our Ability to Walk in Newness of Life
-          Jesus’ resurrection gives us the power to live as a new creation.  Because of Christ’s spirit inside of us, we have the ability to rise above our old failures, shortcomings, and pursue a new way of thinking and acting.
-          Much of the world lives in slavery to the fear of death, but Christ has conquered death.  Because of that, the pallor of our future death doesn’t cast a shadow over our entire life.
-          Even if following Christ leads us to our death, it won’t be the end!
-          Passages to Consider: II Corinthians 5:17; Hebrews 2:14-15
Are you united with Christ?
-          The resurrection of Christ has meaning for us, because we have been united with Christ through baptism.
-          Have you been united with Christ?  Have you shared in his death, so that you might share in his life as well?
-          Passage to Consider: Romans 6:1-4
Praise God for raising our Lord Jesus from the dead!
Thank God that our justification is found in Christ!
Pray for the ability to walk in newness of life, empowered by the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

The Vineyard- March 20th, 2016
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5

Pray for God to speak to you through the reading of His word.
Jesus’ Death was Part of God’s Plan
-          Jesus’ death was not accidental, but is part of the gospel, and has been part of God’s plan from the beginning.
-          What does it tell you about the love of God, that sacrificing his Son was something he was willing to do in order to redeem us?
-          Passages to Consider: Acts 2:23; I Corinthians 15:1-3; Galatians 1:3-5;
Jesus’ Paid Our Debt
-          Jesus went to the cross because of what we did.  The King of the Universe paid the price for the sins of his rebellious servants.
-          Jesus was perfect, and yet he was punished for sin, sin that was not his own
-          Have you ever watched someone suffer because of your mistakes?  Have your mistakes ever cost others?
-          What do you feel when you think of Christ, hanging on the cross because of your sins? (and my sins!)
-          Passages to Consider: Isaiah 53:5-6; Romans 5:6-11; Romans 6:23
What Now?
-          Jesus’ going to the cross for us was a gesture bursting with grace and love. The proper response to such a gesture is one of gratitude.
-          The Bible tells us that in dying in such a way, Christ was not only redeeming us, he was leaving us an example.
-          Is your life defined by self-sacrifice, as Jesus’ was?
-          Passages to Consider: Galatians 2:20; I Peter 1:21-25
Nail it to the Cross
-          God has nailed the debt we owed because of our sin to the cross, and yet sometimes we aren’t content to leave it there.
-          What sins, what burdens, do you need to nail to the cross of Christ?
-          Passage to Consider: Colossians 2:13-14

Praise God for the depth of his love for us, that he was willing to give his own Son for our redemption.
Praise Jesus for his willingness to pay our debt, a debt we could never pay on our own.
Pray for the ability to follow Jesus example of self-sacrificial love.
Pray for the ability to leave our sins nailed to the cross.

The Vineyard- March 13, 2016

The Vineyard- March 13th, 2016
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5

Pray for God to speak to you through the reading of His word.
Jesus’ Birth was a God Thing
-          Jesus’ birth was prophesied hundreds of years prior to it happening.
-          Jesus’ birth to the virgin Mary took place through the power of the Holy Spirit.
-          Jesus’ birth was for the purpose of reconciliation, our redemption being God’s desire and part of his plan all along.
-          Passages to Consider: Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1:30-35; II Corinthians 5:18-19
Jesus’ Birth in the Flesh was Necessary
-          In the beginning of Christianity, some speculated that Jesus’ merely appeared to be human.
-          However, the Bible states clearly in multiple places that Jesus took on flesh, and lived fully as a human being.
-          We as human beings have sinned, and so it was necessary for Jesus to come as a human being to redeem us.  He had to become like us, in order to atone for our guilt.
-          Passages to Consider: Galatians 4:4-5; John 1:14, 16-18; Romans 5:15-17; I Timothy 2:5-6; II Corinthians 8:9
Jesus’ Birth Makes Him Sympathetic
-          Jesus hungered (Matthew 4:2), suffered (Luke 22:44), wept (John 11:33-35), was thirsty (John 19:28), and had real blood running through his veins (John 19:34).
-          Sometimes it is hard to open up to others because we know they can’t possibly understand how we feel.
-          And yet, Jesus experienced the pain, suffering, and disappointment that is sometimes part of being human.
-          Passage to Consider: Hebrews 4:14-16
Jesus was willing to humble himself and take on flesh, not for himself, but for us.  Do you have that same mindset that allows you to humble yourself in order to serve others? As you go through life this week, keep this passage in mind:
-          Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. (Philippians 2:5-7 ESV)

The Vineyard- March 6, 2016

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5

Pray for God to speak to you through the reading of His word.
Jesus is the Christ
-          The word Christ is Greek equivalent of the Hebrew word Messiah, which means “anointed one.”
-          Jesus was anointed by the Holy Spirit at his baptism to perfectly fulfill the roles of prophet, priest, and king.
-          Do you allow Jesus to teach you as a prophet, intercede for you as a priest, and rule you as your king?
Jesus is the Son of God
-          A lot of passages in the New Testament tell us that Jesus is the Son of God.
-          Jesus relationship to God is unique, in that he is God’s Son because of his very nature.
-          How does Jesus as God’s Son reveal to us the nature of God the Father?
-          Passage to Consider: John 1:14, 18; Hebrews 1:1-4
Jesus is Lord
-          God is referred to as the Lord throughout the Old Testament, but then in the New Testament Jesus is also referred to as Lord.
-          What is the implication of Jesus being referred to by God’s title of Lord?
-          If Jesus is Lord at all, he must be Lord of all.  In the end all will bow before Jesus and confess that he is Lord.
-          Have you confessed that Jesus is Lord?
-          Does your life reflect your confession of Jesus as Lord?
-          Passage to Consider: Philippians 2:9-11; Matthew 7:21
Thank God for sending us the Christ, the long-awaited anointed one to be our prophet, priest, and king.
Praise Jesus for revealing the nature of the Father to us.

Pray for the ability to make Jesus the Lord of every aspect of our life!

The Vineyard- February 28th, 2016
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5

Pray for God to speak to you through the reading of His word.
I Believe
-          What does it mean to believe?
-          How is belief more than just thinking something in your mind?
-          Passage to Consider: James 2:14-24
God is One
-          Why is it impossible for there to be more than one God?
-          How is God one, even when the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are all God?
-          Passage to Consider: Deuteronomy 6:4-9
God is Almighty
-          God is the beginning and the end, the Almighty.
-          To say God is Almighty does not mean he can do anything.  For instance, he cannot lie, or do something against his nature.  To say God is Almighty means he rules over everything.  There is nothing he does not control.
-          Passage to Consider: Revelation 1:8
God is a Creator
-          God uses his power in an expressive way, by creating things that are vast, beautiful, and even complex.
-          Passage to Consider: Psalm 8; 19; 104
God is Our Father
-          To say that God is our Father does not mean that he is a male, or human in some way.  It means he cares for us just as our earthly parents should.
-          To say that God is our Father also reminds us that God is not our possession, but we are just one of his many children.
-          Passage to Consider: Matthew 7:11
Pray to God for conviction in your beliefs, so that others might see your faith demonstrated by your actions.
Praise God for his ability to create, and reign over, the universe!
Thank God for being our Father, a God who provides, protects, and redeems!
