The Vineyard
I am the vine; you are the
branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit,
for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5
Philippians 1:1-18a
Pray for God to speak to you through
the reading of His word.
Read the passage.
-
God
o
We learn that God is the source, the
only source, of our grace and peace. Do
you truly have peace in your life? If
not, could it be that you aren’t fully relying on God’s grace?
o
We also learn that God starts what
he finishes. Are you resting secure in
the promise that God will complete the work that he has begun in us?
-
Ourselves
o
Paul and Timothy are “slaves” of
Christ Jesus. Do you think of yourself
as a slave of Christ? Why do you think
we are uncomfortable speaking of ourselves in that way?
o
Paul shows a remarkable ability to
find comfort in the “big picture”. Do
you struggle with getting too absorbed in your own sufferings? How does the big picture of the gospel help
us look past our own pain?
-
The Church
o
Paul paints the picture of a church
in Philippi that is thriving, and yet has room for improvement. How can you help our church abound in love?
Praise God, the source of our grace
and peace through Christ.
Ask God to make us slaves of Christ,
and the gospel.
