The Vineyard- November 2, 2014

The Vineyard

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5

Genesis 32:1-32

Pray that God will speak to you through the reading of His word.

-          Colored by Conscience

o   Jacob hears that Esau is on his way with a band of men.  Still feeling remorse for his earlier treatment of Esau, Jacob interprets the move to be hostile.  Have your own feelings of remorse ever caused you to misinterpret the actions or words of others?

-          Wrestling God

o   In a remarkable act of humility, God takes the form of a man and wrestles with Jacob.  With a simple touch, God cripples Jacob.  What does it mean to wrestle with God?

-          Clinging to God

o   When Jacob can no long wrestle with God, he clings to Him.  It is then, and then only that he receives a blessing.  What does it mean to cling to God, rather than wrestle with God?

Pray that our conscience will lead us to repent and ask forgiveness for times when we have wronged others.

Ask God to strengthen you in the places where you feel weak.

Pray that we will all learn to cling to God in faith, and seek the blessing that comes from a relationship with Him.
