I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me
and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do
nothing. – John 15:5
Genesis 46:1-34
Pray
for God to speak to you through the reading of His word.
Read
the passage.
-
The Promise Transcends Generations
o
God’s promise to Abraham didn’t die
with Abraham, it endured as God continued to bless Abraham’s children and
grandchildren.
o
In what ways has God blessed your
family through the generations?
o
How are you preparing future
generations, your children and grandchildren, to inherit God’s promise of
salvation in Christ?
-
The Promise Transcends Geography
o
Jacob’s
descendants will endure a difficult time in a foreign land, but it is through
that experience that God will give birth to a nation.
o
How
have you felt God’s presence in your life when away from home, or in a strange
place?
o
How
has God used the challenging experiences of your life to bring forth a stronger
faith? How has he refined you in times
of trial?
-
The Promise Transcends Death Itself
o
Like
his grandfather Abraham, and his father Isaac, Jacob dies. But the promise doesn’t die with him.
o
For
Jacob, seeing Joseph again was like seeing someone who had come back from the
dead. In a way, Joseph prefigures Christ
and his resurrection.
o
The
world, and specifically Satan, thought that it would kill the promise that
comes through Christ by killing him. And
yet, Christ was resurrected, and the promise with him. In what ways has God brought life out of what
seemed like death in your life?
o
In
what ways will God bless us, even after death?
Thank God for how he has worked
through the generations in your family, and pray for guidance as to how we
might lead future generations to Christ.
Praise God for never leaving us,
and for walking with us no matter where we go.
Praise God for the resurrection of
Jesus Christ, which secures for us the promise of eternal life with God!
