Whether you are a part of our church family or a friend from miles away, we hope that you will follow this blog as a means of celebrating with us all of the ways God is at work in our community. Our goal is to share with you reflections on what we have learned from God's word in recent weeks, information on upcoming events, updates on those in need of our prayers, as well as reports of praise for those whose prayers have been answered! Additionally, we hope to share lots of pictures so that you will be able to actually SEE the many ways that God continues to bless us through worship, study, and wonderful friendships. The Vineyard- November 30, 2014


The Vineyard

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5

 

Genesis 34:1-31

Pray that God will speak to you through the reading of His word.

-          Purity Resides in the Heart

o   The text refers to Dinah as a victim, and never implies that as the victim she has sinned in any way.  People can take a lot of things from us, but they can never take our purity, for it resides in the heart.  When God looks in your heart, does he find purity there?

-          The Ease of Appeasement

o   Jacob acts in a way that seeks to appease those who have wronged his daughter in a serious way.  Jacob finds in time that ignoring a wrong doesn’t make it go away.  Is there a wrong in your life that you are trying to ignore?

-          The Violence of Vengeance

o   Their anger at Dinah being wronged leads Dinah’s brothers to take vengeance upon not just Dinah’s assailant, but against everyone.  How does refusing to deal with an issue create more problems?

Pray for a pure heart, and the ability to judge others according to their heart rather than physical realities or histories. 

Pray for courage to confront injustices in a fair, truthful way. 

Pray for the ability to reject violence and vengeance as a means of obtaining justice.
